Chilly Chilly Bang Bang: Winter Wedding Style

No ‘Game of Thrones’, winter isn’t coming – it’s here, with a chilly chilly bang bang and so are the winter weddings.  But what to wear to Mr & Mrs Von Hastings’ wedding in the freezing cold marquee in the middle of the Shires?

You don’t want to be drastically cold in a barely-there slip dress, nor do you want to be loaded up like a grizzly bear going into hibernation.  You need to strike the right balance between layering up your look and cutting a sharp silhouette.

“A great blazer is key in colder months,” advises Marie Claire’s fashion editor, Lucia Debieux. “It’s the one thing that will really pull your whole look together if you get it right. From velvet to fall florals we’ve found the best blazers to shrug on over your wedding outfit to keep you warm but looking cool.”

Try this sleek green velvet number from Frame denim over a pastel silk midi dress; perfect for adding some tapered wintery pizzazz to your look:

But who says you have to wear a dress? A smart, tailored suit can also be a great, trend-driven route to go down. The Parisian brands like Maje and Sandro are teeming with options this season; dare to go bold with a colour blocked co-ord suit or reinvent the basics with a pair of dark, oversized tailored trousers and a white broderie shirt – simple yet impeccably stylish.

When it comes to shoes, this is where you can really go to town with striking prints and patterns, particularly if you’re keeping it simple up top. Forget tiresome leopard print, this winter, it’s all about zebra. There is a plethora of brands creating beautiful shoes from this unique and interesting design; of course you may want to take the opportunity to don your finest – and highest – heels at a wedding, but think of your poor little tortured feet at 2am after three hours of solid dancing in stilettos…would you want to put your feet through the torture?

It’s the perfect excuse to whip out your fanciest flats; these Gucci princetown loafers have been on a fashionista tirade this year – seen on the likes of Sienna Miller and Alex Chung – this new zebra print style is the ultimate companion of eccentricity to your winter wedding look.

Of course, what you wear very much depends on the venue.  Are you trekking into the depths of the Scottish Highlands with sub zero temperatures and treacherous terrain? Or perhaps you’re venturing to a grand Elizabethan manor nestled in the picturesque Hampshire hills?

Countryside weddings can be incredibly romantic, particularly during the colder months.  Popular venues include Blenheim Palace (yep, you can actually get married in an actual palace), The Woburn Estate and Leeds Castle.

Countryside: Of course, grandeur is the primary port of call for a wedding in the English countryside, so this is the opportunity to uncover your majestic sartorial self; dig out your finest jewels and your sleekest silks. Floor-length anything is a must-have, whether it’s an elegant flowing pair of satin trousers or a whopping fairytale gown, this is your time to shine so take advantage and don’t be shy.

City: City weddings are a different affair entirely. They have the advantage of easy transportation, firstly. Plus, you can stumble back into the comfort of your own bed once it’s all over instead of the musty BnB room you’ve rented – if you live in the city of course.  Even if you don’t, you’re far more likely to find accommodation from a city dwelling pal than a retreating country hermit, so the privilege of a homely bed (probably) still applies.

London: Popular London wedding venues can range from sky-high rooftops to Park Lane hotels; it’s a mixed bag.  You wouldn’t necessarily want to wear a ball gown to Sushi Samba; nor would you be inclined to don your zebra Guccis to Grosvenor House. That being said, city weddings give you the chance to be a little more edgy with your outfit choices; think fuchsia trouser-suits and quirky florals – yes, even in winter.

The opportunities for winter weddings are endless; whether you are planning one or simply attending as a guest, remember to dress for the occasion. And, for the love of god don’t go for the whole winter wonderland thing – you are better than a cliché.

It’s that time of the year again when the air is filled with festive cheer, friends and family are gathered close, and homes are filled with sumptuous food and celebratory music. The holiday season seems to instill in every heart hope, warmth and love – making it one of the most romantic times of the year to get engaged in.

If you are planning to pop the question, the timing is just right!  And, if you are looking for some last minute proposal ideas, here are a few which are easy to prepare and execute! We’ve put together a few unique ideas that take advantage of the season of revelries and will help you show to your intended how special she/he is.

There's nothing like a festive winter proposal. Image: Instagram: @proposetoremember

There’s nothing quite like a romantic winter proposal. Image: Instagram: @proposetoremember

An ode to the tree: Have you decorated the Christmas tree yet? If not, there’s nothing quite like adorning it with ornaments with your partner in tow, and watching the surprise on their face when he/she finds a ring tied to one of the branches! You can get imaginative and add elements of romance, such as hanging little notes that mention what you love about him/her. Or, amaze your love with a ring inside the stocking! You’ll agree here, there couldn’t be a better start to any Christmas morning.

Light up their world: Dusk in holiday season is almost synonymous with twinkling lights. You can use outdoor string lights to write out, “Will you marry me?” on the front of your house, apartment or lawn. Your friends and family can be secretly stationed inside, while you come up with an excuse to linger outside. Then, have someone flip the switch to reveal the message!

Out and about: If you and your beloved are outdoor people, a picnic in the winter chill presents the best opportunity to ask the big question. Arrange a family outing under the guise of a photo shoot (or Christmas tree-picking at a Christmas farm) and decorate the area with Christmas lights and picnic baskets (containing loads of champagne and sweet treats for the celebrations later). Then, when he/she least expects it, get down on one knee. You can give your photographer a cue to ensure that the best moments get captured to make memories of a lifetime.

Let the music weave its magic: If you know of a local group of singers, contact them to help you out in the task. While you and your beloved are snuggled in, they can come caroling to your door, holding signs of “Happy Holidays!” When they’re finished singing and flip over to reveal, “Will you marry me?” you can expect collected cheers to resonate in your house.

Pull off a fake out: While this idea is season-proof, it is not only sheer fun but also sure to catch your ‘suspecting’ partner totally off guard. Start out by asking for your partner’s ring size in different obvious ways (such as bringing home a ring chart etc.). When they accuse you of ruining the surprise that you are shopping for a ring, bring out the real thing and say, “Okay, try this one instead.” Imagine the look your intended will have!

Counting down to the happy hours: If New Year’s Eve is more your style, why not include the entire partying crowd? This one will require some amount of planning – you want to make sure everyone’s game (after all, they are going to be focusing the most important few minutes of the new year on you). Book a club and request the DJ to stop the music as the countdown starts. When the clock strikes 12, the jubilant crowd stops cheering and goes quiet as you go down on one knee to pop the question. Once you have your answer from a very surprised (and possibly emotional) partner, the cheering can go on unabated!

We hope these spirited ideas have got your thinking mind in top gear and that you have one of the most spectacular holiday seasons! Best of luck!

Go On, Break the Rules!

In a whirlpool of jewellery trends that come and go every season, some waltz in and win us over so thoroughly that they end up being around for a long time. If you are set to be the bride in 2017 and looking for a ring that stands out, or you’re a diamond-lover who wants to own a piece that breaks stereotypes – there’s good news. Experts have forecast this year to be a favourable time for off-beat designs, unique shapes and a splash of imperfection. So, let your inner genius out and break the rules!

Here’s a lowdown on the engagement ring trends that’ll set this year on fire.

Engagement rings featuring fancy colour diamonds or gemstones are a great choice for women looking for a ring with an edge. Pictured above are bespoke 77 Diamonds rings featuring black diamond and morganite centre stones

Engagement rings featuring fancy colour diamonds or gemstones are a great choice for women looking for a ring with an edge. Pictured above are bespoke 77 Diamonds rings featuring black diamond and morganite centre stones surrounded by halos of white diamonds

‘Design’ the dream:

Hail the halo: This year, designers are using diamonds of varying shapes and sizes to up the ornate look of a halo ring for those who want their diamonds to stand out from the crowd. As opposed to the uniform micropave halo that has been doing the rounds for many years now, an elaborate halo adds an element of interest, a vintage aura and makes a personalised statement.

Centre takes stage: When the three-stone ring came in vogue, women couldn’t get enough of it. While this trend continues, there’s a twist that makes it better – the three stones (diamonds or gemstones) will no longer be close in size. Instead, the side stones will be subtle so as to accent the central diamond. With smaller diamonds letting the main diamond take the spotlight, the show is set to become dramatic.

Going Sideways: Some diamond shapes – such as ovals, marquise and cushions – help accentuate a stone more than others. Changing the orientation of the setting in an engagement ring is a clever way to incorporate style while going off-the-beaten-track. An East-West setting features a diamond with a much longer length-to-width ratio, positioning the diamond across the finger rather than along it.

‘Style’ your rock:

Bind it with the bands: For those who like to keep things simple and chic, as well as those who like collecting bands to celebrate milestones – stacked bands not only add character, they are now on their way to becoming a popular alternative to engagement rings. But, this year, make sure you don’t match your ring with the band. Not many know that vintage and antique rings are not meant to ‘match’ with a band. So, break free from convention and let your personal style run amok.

Celebrate imperfection: We especially love that 2017 seems to be a year when lovers celebrate imperfection, stray away from tradition and let their emotions speak. In keeping with these sentiments, couples are advised to throw all caution to the wind and choose hand-cut (read rose-cut), odd stones that aren’t necessarily flawless. The norm to break from the clutter of excellence also stands true for shapes – be it pear, cushion, marquise or emerald-cut. Oddballs are apparently in.

Colour me bright: The biggest diamonds auctions of 2016 saw coloured diamonds and gemstones being lapped up first. The love for colour follows suit in engagement rings too, as splashes of varied hues will be preferred by brides seeking fresh and unexpected pieces. From edgy black diamonds to blue-green opals, dark navy sapphires, vibrant emeralds and pale pink morganites – they’re yours to pick. In metals, rose gold continues to be much-loved, standing out for its unique ability to make the diamonds pop.

Clearly, the idea of selecting an engagement ring for love, commitment and passion serves best when made with a no-holds-barred approach. There couldn’t be a better time to break free from the rules – in relationships and jewellery.

Diamonds that Make the World a Better Place

Diamonds are viewed  and cherished as a symbol of commitment and love. However, most people are unaware of the positive impact they have on various communities. In remote locations where diamonds are mined, their sales have helped turn around the lives of local communities that either developed because of the mining process, or pre-existed. Lifting them up from depths of poverty, hunger, and destitution, the sales of these precious rocks have helped generate employment, education, and health facilities.

One of the most significant impacts of organisations such as the Diamond Empowerment Fund is providing scholarships to young adults in diamond communities. Their chance at gaining higher education in colleges across the globe enables them to bring growth to their own selves as well as their native countries. Image: Instagram @realisadiamond

The establishment of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme in 2003 (that prevents ‘blood diamonds’ from entering the mainstream rough diamond market) had contributed immensely in spearheading a new wave of guilt-free diamond buying to ensure the stones don’t fall in the wrong hands. With increasing awareness, most jewellery houses and diamond miners in the developed nations are now increasingly insistent on sourcing conflict-free diamonds. For instance, all the diamond mines operated by members of the Diamond Producers Association – including those in Southern Africa, Russia, Australia and Canada – work in partnership with the local communities to help generate employment, training, and development.

Working in harmony with local communities is a part of any diamond mine's license to operate. For instance, with efforts by diamond producer Rio Tinto, 4,700 villagers in Madhya Pradesh, India, have access to clean water. Image: Instagram: @diamondsdogood

Recently, the government of Sierra Leone announced its decision to auction the 709-carat ‘Peace Diamond’ that was discovered in the village of Koryardu. The ‘Peace Diamond’, which is the 14th largest rough diamond to be found, is a development diamond. This means that over 50 per cent of its sales value will directly benefit the community where the diamond was discovered, and the people of Sierra Leone. Pastor Emmanuel Momoh, the owner of the diamond, says: “The ‘Peace Diamond’ will greatly improve the lives of our people as it will bring clean water, electricity, schools, medical facilities, bridges, and roads to our villages and the Kono district. This diamond represents our hope for a better future as the resources of Sierra Leone fund growth, development, and jobs.”

Hailing the initiative, Tobias Kormind, co-founder of 77 Diamonds, hopes the auction inspires others to follow suit. “With the Peace Diamond, Sierra Leone is following Botswana’s example, using its precious natural resources for the good of its people. Botswana was once one of Africa’s poorest nations, but today, thanks to its diamonds, Botswana has a literacy rate of over 80% and child mortality rates have plummeted by more than 70% since the 1960s when diamonds were first discovered there. The sale of the Peace Diamond, a partnership between the Sierra Leone government and the Rapaport Group, is a business model with integrity and vision. I hope we see much more of this,” he says.

Some of the changes brought by the sales of diamonds in socially and economically regressive communities have been tremendous. In Australia, the landmark Argyle Participation Agreement signed in 2004 between Rio Tinto and the traditional owners of the Argyle mine – the Gija and Mirriuwung people – empowered the local natives with training, employment, and business development opportunities, apart from lending the aboriginals a voice in mining decisions affecting their interests.

Education is another area that was bolstered by the diamond industry, with schools founded and funded in scores of countries where diamond mining companies are nestled. In fact, income from diamonds has helped make it possible for every child in Botswana to receive free schooling up to the age of 13. Since 2007, the Diamond Empowerment Fund (D.E.F.), founded by Russell Simmons and other diamond and jewellery industry leaders, has been providing promising youth with access to higher education.

Diamonds are finite resources whose worth intensifies manifold when they help populations to sustain, and these stones will continue to change lives for generations to come.

Geneva auctions: Big sales and fails

If there’s one constant at the much-awaited diamonds’ auction in Geneva, it’s the stones that are always bigger and shinier than their predecessors. The autumn sales in Switzerland were on from November 11 till November 15, bringing cheer, and some disappointment. The eagerly anticipated Magnificent auctions, however, continue to boast of the most opulent and massive rocks going under the hammer.

The star of the auction was The Art of Grisogono, a flawless 163.41-carat diamond

This year belonged to the biggest diamond ever sold at auction – The Art of Grisogono. A flawless 163.41-carat clear diamond, it fetched £25.7 million at Christie’s on Tuesday evening, bought by an anonymous telephone bidder after two minutes of bidding. The diamond was cut from a rough 404-carat stone discovered in Angola last year – the biggest diamond ever found in that country, and the 27th biggest rough white diamond ever discovered. It became the centrepiece of an asymmetric gem-studded necklace designed by Fawaz Gruosi, founder of De Grisogono, a Geneva-based jeweller. Made of 18 diamonds on one side and two rows of pear-shaped emeralds on the other, The Art of Grisogono took more than 1,700 hours and a team of 14 De Grisogono craftspeople to create. It is estimated to be about 40 per cent bigger than a diamond sold by Sotheby’s in 2013 for about US $31 million.

Despite its rarity and beauty, the diamond necklace sold for about £12m less than expected

However, the sale disappointed experts who had estimated the flawless D coloured, IIA type piece at £37 million. For the uninitiated, D is the highest colour grade attributed to a diamond, indicating that the stone is completely colourless, and so, extremely rare. Tobias Kormind, managing director of 77 Diamonds, said he was disappointed that the diamond didn’t sell for a more dazzling price. Rahul Kodakia, auctioneer and head of Christie’s, international jewels division, added, however, that it marked “a new world-record price for a D coloured diamond at auction.”

Another highlight of the auction was the Le Grand Mazarin, a 19.07-carat light pink diamond of VS2 clarity that went under the hammer to an unidentified telephone bidder for £11,012,750. Named after Cardinal Mazarin, an Italian cardinal, diplomat, and a great art collector, the Le Grand Mazarin was once set in the crowns of numerous French kings and emperors, including Napoleon. Cardinal Mazarin bequeathed it, along with other diamonds, to the Sun King in his will. The diamond was originally dug out of the ancient mines of Golconda in south-central India and has been described as a “timeless symbol of beauty” by Christie’s. It has appeared at auction for the first time in 130 years. Featuring these and an array of coloured diamonds, the Christie’s sales totalled £81,105,073.

At Sotheby’s on Wednesday evening, there were more bloopers in wait. Despite being dubbed as the largest known diamond graded “fancy intense pink” for its rare colour, The Raj Pink failed to sell. The cushion-shape stone that weighs 37.30 carats was found in South Africa and has been mounted on a ring. It was estimated to sell at US $20-30 million. Even though bidding opened at $10.02 million, it could manage to climb to £10,695,921 ($14 m Swiss Francs) before stalling.

“The Pink Raj” was not an easy stone to sell”, said Eric Valdieu, a Geneva-based jewellery dealer, formerly of Christie’s. It’s lack of history is stated to be one of the reasons for its failure to find many takers. Tobias Kormind said he was worried for the top end of the diamond market.

Other major lots that failed to meet the secret reserve price set by their sellers included a pair of yellow diamonds that previously belonged to the German princely family of Von Donnersmarck. It reached £5,959,156 but failed to find a new owner. Only 303 of the 349 lots found new owners, quoted Sotheby’s. In total, the sale netted £59,491,177.

How to secretly find her ring size

$

Alright men, so you’ve finally decided the time is right to pop the question. You’ve picked out the engagement ring, you have the perfect proposal planned out, but one thing is standing in your way: You don’t know her ring size. Well don’t fret because 77Diamonds.com is here with a list of tips to help you secretly find your future fiance’s ring size to complete the perfect surprise proposal.

  1. Phone a friend: Get in touch with a friend or family member of your significant other. They may have bought her a ring as a gift before, or the topic of ring size could have popped up in conversation. If they don’t know then you can always recruit them as an accomplice. Have someone take her “window shopping” for a ring and get her to see what her ring size is for “fun”.
  2. “Borrow a ring”: If you can get your hands on a ring that your girlfriend wears you can take it to a jewellers and get it measured. However, in order to get an accurate measurement you’ll need to be sure that the ring actually fits her properly and it is worn on the correct finger (left ring finger), as all fingers are different sizes. If she does not wear a ring on that finger you can settle for an estimated measurement for another finger, but beware the ring will most likely need to be resized.
  3. When the ring can’t leave the home: Say you are unable to take her ring to a jeweller without her noticing it’s missing, there are several ways you can estimate the size without taking the ring out of the home. For one, you can try the ring on yourself and mark on your finger where it falls. Then you can go to a jeweller and have them find the size that falls in the same place. Also, you can make an impression of her ring in a bar of soap or clay and take it in for measurement. One last way is to trace the inside of her ring with a pencil and have a jeweller match the size.
  4. Sleeping Beauty: While your girlfriend blissfully slumbers, unaware of what you have planned you can wrap a piece of paper or string around her ring finger and mark the size that way. If you bring this in to a jeweller they can help you to find a measurement. Just make sure she’s not a light sleeper.
  5. When in doubt: Size up! A ring is easier to resize if it is too big, and most jewellers offer free resizing. Just note that thin bands or those which are intricately covered in gems might not be able to be resized. Make sure you check with your jeweller if the ring is resizable. Also, if you’re guessing her ring size it’s important to know that rings which have a thick band will need to be larger than her normal rings.
  6. Tell her it’s for someone else: You may be able to get her to divulge her ring size by telling her you want to buy a ring for your sister or mother. Tell her you want to get an estimated size for someone else and either ask her to try on a ring or ask her outright what her size is. Beware though; this method could be a dead giveaway if not done right.

Using these one of these tips you should be able to get a fairly accurate measurement of her ring size and be well on the way to spending the rest of your life with the woman of your dreams. Just remember to keep in mind these important points: 1) You need to find the size of her left ring finger. Rings worn on any other finger aren’t likely to give an accurate measurement. 2) When in doubt size up because it’s easier to resize down. 3) Make sure the engagement ring is resizable.

Good luck fellas!

8 Considerations When Proposing To Someone

$

Proposing is likely to be one of the most exciting and nerve-wracking experiences of your life and the pressure to get it just right is enormous. It’s a moment both of you will remember forever, and hopefully it’ll also be a lovely story to share with friends and family.

First things first, get the proposal ring (or a dummy one)

While the majority of people propose with a carefully chosen engagement ring, some opt to play it safe with a token ring and an appointment at the jewellers; so they can go ring shopping together at a later date.

If you think you’d rather choose the ring pre-proposal, we’ve plenty of guidance to offer. To make it really simple, you can purchase a diamond or ring online with us. It’s a stress-free experience as each piece has plenty of information about it, and our experts are available on live 24-hour-chat if you have any questions. Plus, there’s the reassurance of our 30-day returns policy.

Our most popular halo engagement ring, the Aphrodite.

“You’ve found your one and only and we’ll help you find your one in 300,000”

If you feel you’d like more of a one-to-one experience, our showroom appointments are designed to take you through selecting or designing a ring that’s perfect for your partner. You’ve found your one and only and we’ll help you find your one in 300,000 (that’s how many diamonds we have access to). We’ll discuss every detail with you, finding out about your loved one so we can give you the best possible advice. We can show you popular rings; the most dazzling diamond shapes, the best carat sizes for value; and we’ll explain any unfamiliar terminology. We want to make the process fun and memorable; so it becomes part of your unique engagement story.

“We can help you design matching wedding and eternity rings, too”

If you think your loved one would like to be involved in the selection process, we’ll be happy to provide you with a ‘dummy’ engagement ring for the proposal. You can then book a showroom appointment to design something together from scratch or take inspiration from previous client’s creations. Or why not propose with a diamond and then design the setting together? Our expertise doesn’t stop at engagement rings. We can help you create matching wedding and eternity rings, too. We also offer engraving, enabling you to add a personal message to your rings.

Next, ask the parents permission

Asking your future father-in-law or family member’s permission will win you big brownie points, and even if they’re not that traditional, it shows respect for the family you’re marrying into. It starts your engagement off on a good foot and, if your proposal involves a few plans, they could be useful to help coordinate.

Location, location, location

Your proposal story is probably going to be retold a lot, so make sure it’s a story worth telling. From a beautiful setting that’s special to you both, to your first holiday destination, or somewhere you’ve always wanted to explore, whisking your loved one away will make it memorable and put you both in a relaxed and happy mood. A fancy meal out or a cosy supper in can be just as romantic. Take the lead from Prince Harry who proposed to Meghan Markle during a night in enjoying roast chicken. Popping the question over Christmas or New Year’s Eve could make the festive season even more magical, or why not pick a birthday or special anniversary to set the tone for your engagement.

Make the proposal a reflection of her

“Be inspired by a favourite film or song, or simply decorate the room”

Don’t forget to make it personal and make it a reflection of your loved one. A public proposal somewhere busy might not suit a private person, so take time to think about the sort of thing your partner likes and doesn’t like. Be inspired by a favourite film or song, or simply decorate the room with their favourite flowers.

Take inspiration

Why not do a bit of googling for inspiration – or even just to give you an idea of how not to do it. There are plenty of grand-gesture proposals on YouTube, or read our real life proposal stories – two are detailed below.

Altan and Holly
Altan booked his make-up artist girlfriend Holly for a fake job via email pretending to be a bride-to-be named “Louise”. When she knocked on the door of the beautiful Manor House Altan had organised for the pretend makeover, Holly expected the bride-to-be to answer the door. Altan answered instead and said, “Sorry, Louise couldn’t make it” and went on to say how much Holly meant to him, whilst going down on one knee. Altan had arranged for both their families to arrive at the manor the next day – giving them no details except to pack a bag for the weekend – turning the proposal into a celebratory weekend.

Taf and Temi
Taf proposed by City Hall in London Bridge having told girlfriend Temi he was taking her to dinner with friends. Upon arrival, he said he had a surprise for Temi pointing her towards a window in which two friends, Taf’s sister and cousin were holding up a “Will you marry me?” sign. Temi burst into tears while Taf got down on one knee.

Plan the whole day, not just the proposal

“…think of the proposal as part of a memorable day”

What are you going to do after you’ve popped the question? You could have a romantic picnic or open a bottle of bubbly, or why not involve friends and family and turn the occasion into a big celebration? Whatever you decide, think of the proposal as part of a memorable day.

Don’t forget to insure the ring

“…it’s a good idea to insure the ring so it’s protected in case the sizing isn’t quite right”

If you’re planning on proposing abroad it’s a good idea to insure the ring so it’s protected in case the sizing isn’t quite right. And when packing, attach a note to the ring box to ensure discretion should you get searched at security.

Your happy ever after

“This life-changing event marks an exciting new beginning”

Enjoy the moment and look beyond the proposal. Love is about so much more than popping the question and it’s the little everyday moments that will sustain your togetherness, so look forward and get excited. This life-changing event marks an exciting new beginning.

Stephen gave Kellie the surprise of a lifetime when he flew to New York in secret to propose to his partner of eight-and-a-half years. While holidaying in New York with her mother, Stephen showed up with a film crew in tow to capture the special moment. The couple has kindly shared their story and video of Stephen’s proposal journey with 77 World.

First Meeting

Stephen Craven, a marketing consultant and Kellie Reedy, a salon manager from Cheshire moved in similar social circles, so have known each other for the better part of 12 years. They hung out at the same parties, in the same bars and became friends at first. “Over time, we just started spending more and more time together until it was obvious (to everyone) that we were more than friends. We’ve been together eight-and-a-half years now,” says Stephen.

She’s the One

Stephen has known Kellie was the one since their first holiday together as a couple. He recalls, “We were having a great holiday in Greece, really relaxed, lazing around the pool. On the last night, we went for a walk and I asked Kellie if she wanted to live with me. We moved in together as soon as we landed and have been inseparable ever since.”

The Proposal

Stephen recently popped the question in June on Gapstow Bridge, Central Park in New York City. “For Christmas 2017, my gift to Kellie was a trip to NYC with her mum, Sue. I spoke to Sue in January and let her know of my intentions, and we devised a plan alongside my friends, Alex and Naomi, two amazing videographers and Shari, an NYC resident I have been good friends with for a couple of years. I flew over in secret, and on the last day of their holiday arranged for Kellie and her mum to walk to Gapstow Bridge in Central Park. I set up Alex and Naomi as a fake camera crew, interviewing Brits in NYC on why they love it so much, then I snuck in and dropped to one knee!”

The Engagement Ring

Kellie’s engagement ring was made to order by 77 Diamonds; Stephen selected the Delicacy design with a round brilliant solitaire. “Kel has always had a very strong idea about what she wanted – classic, simple, unfussy and let the diamond speak for itself. The reaction from Kellie was priceless. She is in love with it and the way it looks in different light,” Stephen shares.

The Wedding

The wedding is very much in the planning stages right now; the couple have provisionally set a season and a timescale but the rest is to be confirmed. Good luck with the planning, we look forward to hearing more!

Congratulations Stephen and Kellie, we wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Introduction

Is there a reason that you’re always drawn to pearl jewellery? Maybe it’s because you’re a Gemini. Gemstones and semi-precious jewels are more than just stones that sparkle in the colours of the rainbow. They can mean so much more. Each sign of the zodiac is associated with a stone that symbolizes the qualities of the person born under each star sign. Many people think that by wearing the stone of your signit will ground, protect and bring clarity to your everyday. To many they aren’t just a fashion statement but meaningful stones to wear alongside their diamond jewellery.

Loose diamonds

Diamonds are for a strong willed Aires

Diamonds for a strong willed Aries

March 21 – April 19

Well, we had to start with diamonds didn’t we?  Much like you sweet Aries, diamonds are tough and know how to fair the storms of life. Represented by the ram, you can push through the hard days and move to a place where things feel brighter. Wearing diamonds will bring you a sense of clarity, calm and when wearing something like our Il Sole Mini you’ll feel like you’re sparkling.

Loose Diamonds

Emeralds for a passionate Taurus starsign

April 20 – May 20

The greenest of greens, emeralds are rare and one of the most stunning stones to wear with diamonds. Stirring up emotions like passion, envy and lust, these are very similar to your sensitivities Taurus, much like you they’re made to be seen. Those deep green shades inside an emerald are said to be first created from the dewdrops dripping from the feet of Venus, the barefoot goddess – we’re sure you’ll be captivating in them too.

Uncut emerald

Pearls for a rare Gemini

May 21 – June 21

Pearls come from one of our favorite things, oysters. Born from inside an oysters shell, they are a hidden beauty beneath the sea. Much like you Gemini, they have two sides to their story. Pearls start as a speck of dust inside the shell but become something stunning, their duality is similar to all the elements of your personality. Wearing a pearl will highlight who you are and bring some of the sea into your hemisphere.

Pearls

Rubies gemstone for a loving Cancer

June 22 – July 22

Like the crab that represents your star sign Cancer, Rubies have a hard shell. You’re a sensitive soul and you need time alone to rest your thoughts and process the world around you. Taking time with the natural beauties of the world and wearing your gemstone will give you that sense of protection much like the shell of the crab. Keep your inner beauty for those that love you most.

Ruby

Peridots for a fierce Leo

July 23 – August 22

You love to be seen Leo. Ruled by the sun and represented by the lion you’re a fierce and fiery one so it’s only natural that your birthstone stands out. The peridot is a bright lime green that shines with tones of yellow. A favourite of Cleopatra and a beautiful match with diamonds and gold, wearing a peridot will make you feel just like who you know you are.

 Peridot gemstone

Sapphires for a perfect Virgo

August 23 – September 22

Sapphires come in many gorgeous colours from vivid yellows to soft pinks but we love the deep blue sapphires that are the perfect match for any Virgo. With an intensity of colour that has been likened to your intensity for life, it’s a stone that will bring you a sense of peace and protection when it’s worn. With a great eye for beauty Virgo, it’s something that you’ll no doubt seek.

Sapphire gemstone

Opals for a rare Libra

September 23 – October 22

Opals capture the beauty of what seems like a thousand colours. Like you Libra they embody a magical and mystical quality. Paired beautifully with diamonds these iridescent stones are rare and are the perfect match for your sign. The almost translucent quality of the opal will help illuminate aspects of your life when you wear it so expect to learn a thing or two.

Opal gemstone

Topaz for an intense Scorpio

October 23 – November 21

Scorpio, you are magnetic and you know it. People want to be in your light and the orange toned Topaz is the stone that captures your star signs spirit. Loyalty and love are key to your life and sometimes from these anxieties can arise. The topaz’s healing nature are key to calm in your life as they bring with them a sense of spirituality and sensuality that you’re always looking for.

Topaz gemstone

Turquoise for an adventurous Sagittarius

November 22 – December 21

The deep blue tones of turquoise are evocative of the ocean and like the ocean Sagittarius you know that life comes with waves. A delicate stone unlike diamonds turquoise absorbs negative energy and feelings of unease. You Sagittarius are famed in the zodiac for your optimism but wearing some turquoise in your life will remind you that you can let your guard down sometimes.

 Turquoise gemstone

Garnets for a reliable Capricorn

December 22 – January 19

Garnets catch light so beautifully and similar to you Capricorn they love being acknowledged for their beauty and talent. Garnets symbolize both light and darkness and you can see that balance within the stones, they look different under changing light and it’s changing properties help bring changes to you when you wear them. Garnets lift moods and will your stimulate senses bringing you realise something new.

Garnets gemstone

Amethysts for an incredible Aquarius

January 20 – February 18

Pale purple, pretty as April’s lilacs, Amethysts capture the inner peace of all Aquarians. It is a stone that adds some stability to your life and with it brings a sense of spirit and inner strength. A stunning match for diamonds, the Amethysts’ light can seem translucent and tonal depending on the stone. Wear one to bring you a feeling of majesty and confidence in your everyday life.

Amethyst gemstone

Aquamarine for out of this world Pisces

February 19 – March 20

Ancient legends believes that the sky was once solid and broke apart into Aquamarines. Like the water of the sea and the blue of a summer sky, you need to feel connected to the natural world around you Pisces. You are always looking for something solid to cling to and these stones affirm this search for peace that is found in nature. Wear one to soothe your senses which can so easily be stirred up by the stress of modern life.
